Responsibilities

Ready To Build the Data Models and Semantic Layers That Turn Raw Healthcare Data Into Analytics Clients Actually Trust?

Why This Role Matters

Reporting is only as reliable as the data beneath it. As a Senior Data Engineer on the EBI DataOps team, you own the transformation pipelines, dimensional models, and semantic layers that convert raw data into the gold tables and dashboards clients use to make decisions. You're also the person who raises the technical bar for the engineers around you — mentoring on data modeling, SQL, and best practices that scale.

What You'll Actually Do

Build and maintain transformation pipelines: Develop and sustain SQL-based pipelines that convert raw and bronze-layer data into curated silver and gold tables using dbt or equivalent tooling.

Design dimensional models and semantic layers: Architect and maintain data models — facts, dimensions, star and snowflake schemas — that support reporting requirements across Snowflake, MicroStrategy, and Power BI.

Develop reports, dashboards, and AI agents: Build and maintain reports, dashboards, and AI agents in Snowflake, MicroStrategy, and Power BI, with a strong eye for how modeling decisions affect downstream performance and usability.

Enforce metric consistency: Define and maintain shared metric definitions, calculations, and business logic across multiple BI tools and reporting layers to ensure consistent analytics outputs.

Investigate and resolve pipeline issues: Triage incoming bugs and incidents, troubleshoot data and pipeline failures, and resolve issues collaboratively with accuracy and urgency.

Document and onboard new data sets: Investigate unfamiliar data sources, document structure and transformation logic, and integrate them into the existing architecture.

Monitor pipeline performance: Track production pipeline execution and performance, identifying and addressing degradation proactively.

Implement data quality checks: Design and enforce quality controls that maintain consistency and accuracy across all transformation outputs.

Mentor junior and mid-level engineers: Provide hands-on guidance on data modeling, SQL, and semantic layer best practices — elevating the team's technical capability over time.

Contribute to sprint delivery: Participate in refinement, planning, and kick-off ceremonies — estimating stories, surfacing complexity, and defining implementation details.

Qualifications

What You Bring to Our Team

Education & Experience

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level SQL including pivots, window functions, complex date calculations, and query optimization at scale in Snowflake
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modeling and semantic layer design — facts, dimensions, star and snowflake schemas — and how they map to silver/gold layer architecture
  • Hands-on experience building transformation pipelines with dbt or equivalent; ETL/ELT experience required
  • Proficiency in building semantic models, reports, and dashboards in MicroStrategy and Power BI or comparable BI tools
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, dbt, or Azure Data Factory preferred
  • Familiarity with source-to-target mapping and translating transformation logic from legacy systems into Snowflake
  • Solid understanding of relational and non-relational data models and their analytics trade-offs
  • Strong Excel skills for ad hoc analysis and validation
  • Git proficiency required for version-controlled model and transformation development
