Role Overview :

The Data Engineer II is a key contributor within our data engineering team, responsible for developing and enhancing data pipelines, troubleshooting data issues, and supporting cross-functional data needs. In this role, you will collaborate closely with account management, ETL, data warehouse, business intelligence, and reporting teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and high-quality data solutions.

You will also serve as a mentor to junior team members, helping to guide, onboard, and train Data Engineer I staff. The ideal candidate has strong experience working with both relational and non-relational data models and brings a detail-oriented, problem-solving mindset to every project.

 

What You'll Actually Do

  

  • Extract, cleanse, and load data from various internal and external sources

  • Develop and maintain data pipelines using SQL, Kafka, and other modern data engineering technologies

  • Investigate, analyze, and document new data sets, ensuring structure, quality, and proper integration

  • Triage incoming bugs and incidents, identifying root causes and driving timely resolutions

  • Perform technical operations tasks to support ongoing data infrastructure and workflow reliability

  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues related to data quality, data flow, and pipeline performance

  • Participate in sprint refinement, planning, and kickoffs, providing story estimates and highlighting key technical considerations

  • Monitor data pipeline performance and proactively raise awareness when failures or risks are detected

  • Define, implement, and maintain quality assurance rules to ensure consistent, accurate, and reliable data across systems

Qualifications

What You Bring to Our Mission

 

Data Architecture & Modeling

  • Strong understanding of relational and non-relational database models, with the ability to select and design the right model for the use case

  • Experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines, ensuring data quality, performance, and scalability

  • Ability to conduct thorough code and data reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards

Technical Proficiency

  • Advanced SQL expertise, including:

    • Window functions

    • Pivots

    • Complex joins and subqueries

    • Date/time calculations

  • Proficient in Python, with experience writing reusable, production-ready code

  • Hands-on experience working with REST APIs and JSON, including parsing and transforming API output into normalized relational structures

  • Experience with AWS Lambda and AWS Console (preferred)

  • Experience with Git or similar version control tools (preferred)

Analytics & Tools

  • Proficient in Excel and able to perform advanced data manipulation

  • Experience with one or more Business Intelligence / data visualization tools such as:

    • Tableau

    • MicroStrategy

    • Power BI

  • Ability to translate complex data sets into clear, actionable insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders

Core Attributes

  • Highly detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving and data validation skills

  • Ability to manage multiple data streams, prioritize effectively, and operate in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach when working with engineering, product, and analytics teams

Education and Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in Data Engineering, working with modern data architectures and production grade data pipelines
  • Bachelors degree or certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field

In compliance with all states and cities that require transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges from $90,000 to $125,000. Note that compensation may vary based on location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for 10% target bonus/variable compensation as well as health, dental, vision, mental health and other benefits.
